Phase-detection AF is used in D-SLRs and keeps pace with your subject no matter how fast it moves. When the light is low or your subject is located at the edge of the frame, this intelligent hybrid system instantly switches to use contrast-detect AF for spot-on results every time.

Split-second wonders: the Nikon 1 S2 can snap full-resolution photos of the action faster than you can see it unfold. The camera takes ten images in a rapid burst, delivering continuous shooting at up to 60 fps with focus fixed at the first frame, and up to 20 fps with continuous AF.
